Au revoir | Danny Miller’s final message

As Aaron’s departure draws closer, actor Danny Miller relives some of Aaron’s highs and lows from the past four years. He’s come a long way since the troubled teen who arrived in 2008. Full of angst as he fought against his sexuality and his turbulent relationship with his mother, Chas. His romance with Jackson proved to be Aaron’s defining moment and helped to reveal his true character traits, one of those being fierce loyalty to his family and friends. ‘Emmerdale’s Danny Miller films final scenes, thanks fans on Twitter

Danny Miller has revealed that he filmed his final scenes on Emmerdale today after four years in the soap. The 21-year-old actor, who has won awards for his portrayal of the angst-ridden Aaron Livesy, made a stirring statement on Twitter.

“Well that’s it,” he wrote earlier this evening (Friday). “Can’t explain the emotions i feel at the moment! It’s been a pleasure to play Aaron and I love you all for taking the character on and loving his storylines. Thank you so much for your support for me the last 4 years! I love you all and finally a HUMUNGOUS thank you to everyone at Emmerdale for the trust and support me like families do! Thank you all so much! X”

Yesterday, a report revealed the location and possible nature of Aaron’s final episode, which will air on April 5. Over the next fortnight, the character becomes romantically involved with a professional rugby player called Ed. Emmerdale bosses have already confirmed that Aaron’s exit will be “heartbreaking”.

Danny Miller praises new Aaron romance

Emmerdale star Danny Miller has predicted that his character Aaron Livesy’s new romance storyline will prove a hit with fans. Next week’s episodes of the ITV1 soap see Aaron embark on a relationship with rugby player Ed Roberts, who was first introduced as a customer at the garage earlier this month.

Aaron’s bond with Ed marks the first time that he has developed strong feelings for anybody since the death of his boyfriend Jackson last year. Miller, pondering how Emmerdale viewers will react to the plot, told Inside Soap: “Those who got into the Aaron and Jackson story from the start will still love Jackson. They might not take to Ed at first, but they will. Lloyd Everitt, who plays him, is a great actor - he’s helping to make it all very believable.”

Discussing the story, he continued: “Aaron has a chance to learn from his past mistakes. This is a positive step for him - getting involved with someone new. Jackson is gone and now Hazel’s left the village, so this is about Aaron moving on. “He’s attracted by Ed’s good looks and laid-back attitude - even if he’s trying not to make it too obvious how he feels.” Emmerdale airs Aaron and Ed’s first kiss on Monday, March 5 at 7pm on ITV1.

Danny’s red hot exit from Emmerdale

Danny Miller has been handed an explosive exit from Emmerdale this coming April as his troubled character Aaron Livesy will narrowly escape being burned alive in the garage, according to the Daily Star, and the fire will be started by his pal Adam Barton. (Theemmerdaily.com, 23rd February 2012).

Adam, played by Adam Thomas, wants revenge on Cain Dingle, who he believes is responsible for the death of his dad, John. He will set fire to the garage thinking Cain (Jeff Hordley) is trapped inside. But Adam is devastated when Cain turns up to see his business in flames. The lad then realises it’s his best mate Aaron trapped inside. A show insider said: “Adam feels sick that he may have killed the wrong man. Fans will be on the edge of their seats when he races into the burning building to try and save him. There will be a real nail-biting moment when you are left wondering whether either will get out alive.” The Daily Star has confirmed that both lads will make it out alive - something Betty can confirm. There are no plans to kill off either character. But Cain is out for blood when he realises the fire was started deliberately. To spare the Bartons any more misery, Aaron claims he’s to blame and decides to leave Emmerdale for good. Danny had told bosses he wanted his character killed off but they said no as they hope he could return to the show one day.

‘Aaron exit keeps changing’, says Danny Miller

Emmerdale star Danny Miller has revealed that the soap’s team are still discussing how to write out his character Aaron Livesy. Aaron will be leaving the village in the spring as Miller has decided to pursue new projects following his three-year stint with the show.

Speaking on Lorraine this morning, the 21-year-old actor confirmed that he has yet to receive exact details of Aaron’s exit. “They keep chopping and changing [it] - I think because they want to make it quite impactful and dramatic,” Miller explained.

He continued: “I hope it’s not leaving in the back of a cab, but there’s great storyliners and a great team there.” Miller added that he is looking forward to attending new auditions once he has finished filming at Emmerdale. “It’s terrifying, because it’s such a secure job, and to decide that you want to go out there to the big wide world is quite a scary feeling, really,” he said. “But it’s exciting as well.”

Unfortunately the rumours are true Emmerdale actor, Danny Miller has announced that he will be leaving the ITV soap next year.

Danny, who plays mechanic, Aaron Livesy, will leave his role on the show in Spring 2012. “It has been an incredibly difficult decision but after three years playing Aaron and much soul-searching, I am eager to explore other roles. I am so grateful to Emmerdale for the opportunity that I have been given and have loved every moment. I will miss everyone enormously but this might not be the last we see of Aaron.”

Stuart Blackburn, Emmerdale’s series producer also added: “We completely respect Danny’s decision and are very grateful for the hard work and commitment he has brought to his role as Aaron. We wish him all the best for the future and in the meantime there is still plenty more drama to come from Aaron well into 2012.”

Since joining Emmerdale in 2008, Danny has been part of some of their most prolific storylines including; Aaron’s coming out and the assisted suicide of his boyfriend; Jackson Walsh (Marc Silcock) after he was left paralysed following a harrowing train crash.

Danny has enjoyed huge success in his role as Aaron Livesy winning Best Actor and Best Dramatic Performance at the British Soap Awards 2011.

Upon the news being released Danny tweeted:

“So the news is out. I am departing the amazing show that is Emmerdale next year! I have loved my time here and I love each and every person that has been a part of my life there. And I love them so much! I’ll miss them and the support they’ve shown me over the last 3 years but… I would like to explore other roles and that’s not to say it’s the end for Aaron. I’ll always be here and thank you for all your support! :’( I’ll miss it because it’s a massive part of my life. I will watch it for the rest of my life and I know the show will continue to go from strength to strength because it truly is an amazing show!

It`s a bit odd: Aaron`s story seemed to pick up pace with him struggling with his sexuality and Jackson coming into his life. And now, about a year later, the storyline feels as if it`s laid to rest with Jackson being interred. Of course Aaron`s journey just begins, so the promotion says - like always. But I`m not sure if I`m happy about the handling anyway. Maybe I should give the soap and me a rest until Emmerdale gets back to it`s strong points.

I know it`s hard to deal with the absolutely unexpected death of producer Gavin Blyth, and we get the result of the loss for weeks now, but after half a year it should be time to get the show back to where it was with Gavin, who was able to connect big storylines with funny and easy-going plots. But at the moment they just try to get as many proceedings as possible without acting them out.

Storylines get started for no particular reason, and they end as unexciting as they begin (Chas stupid fling with Nikhil, Debbie’s pregnancy). It`s the same with characters that were introduced half-heartedly, then got nothing to do and get sacked now (the entire Macey clan before the chemical-free love affairs). In addition to this the Dalers more and more talk about turns and happenings instead of showing them (Adam caught in the lavatory while Ella and Declan have another of their weird argues in the hotel foyer).

The best example for this strange storytelling is Aaron leaving Smithy`s and moving together with his mum (and Gennie, Katie and Scarlett – as far as she is still on the show?). This consolidation should have been a sensation after all the trouble Aaron and her mum had. But all we get is Chas offering it to Aaron, Chas informing Paddy about it, Aaron telling Paddy his decision. But we don`t see him move out, join the woman`s flat share, we don`t get him live with them, and neither do we see Paddy alone in Smithy`s (after Rhona has left precipitately as well). Or has Aaron already moved back as I guess after this weeks first episodes? But what`s the point of a storyline if they don`t want to give us anything about it?

That`s just one example for starting a story without further context or just hinting it obviously to fill the airtime. Gavin Blyth was brilliant in connecting the light fare with complex storylines, and he always left the impression of having a considered masterplan. These days I don`t even get the feeling each and every episode is well conceived. And even the great and lovely Jane Pearson, maybe one of Emmerdale`s best writers, has to tell plots that happen in the off (Aaron`s hearing) while she has to give us the tear-jerking routine about Aaron`s suffering (which will be pursued for the next months until Aaron is cried out – and even longer). I don`t want to be unfair to Gavin`s successors but the show needs to get the feeling and the dynamic back that he was able created – and that means more than just Aaron`s tears to keep the fandom happy and in line.

Of course as a fan I will go on tracking the show and especially Aaron`s development, I will go on collecting new and old episodes on http://www.youtube.com/user/TheInsomniaTV, but for now I don`t want to comment all the progressions and coming ups. They might miss a lot of chances with the current episodes, but still it`s touching to see Aaron at the graveside. Quite, decent, emotional - that`s how it could be! And what a great introduction for the afterwards episode seeing the time pass by while Aaron is lying on the grave. But then again it`s a shame that Chas comes over, mumbles something inappropriate and leaves again. Like she babbles quite confused stuff on the funeral day - which is based on her awkwardness towards her son`s fate of course. But who can be surprised that Aaron wants to be on his own then?

Jackson`s funeral is meant to be another big tearjerker, but it feels a bit odd. Actually, it gives the audience what they expect: affecting tears, some more reproaches and a factitious video message with Jackson asking people to understand his mum and Aaron. It`s so obviously chuming up to the audience that it`s a bit boring the same time. Don`t misunderstand me, the writing is still touching, but I miss something unexpected within all the funeral routine. What I didn`t expect is Aaron being omited. Especially the hearing and him alone in the holding cell could have changed the dynamic of this static storytelling. Maybe they could have renounced the inappropriate verbal assaults of Steve`s girlfriend Annie for example. Even some short snippets of Aaron`s suffering within the musical part would have been great. Therefore it`s just a suitable episode but not a brilliant.

Paddy “He`s a little shyster!”

In the beginning it is quite complicated for all: Paddy tries his best on Aaron (since he wants to please Chas of course), but Aaron winds him up by any chance. This time, Paddy is appalled to find Aaron giving a bag of drugs to a dodgy friend. Both lads leg it before Paddy can stop them, so he has a go at Chas. And she loses it once more when she finds Aaron stashing his profits. When Chas claims the money, Aaron attacks her, only to be hauled off by an angry Zak who tells Aaron an effective Dingle lesson. - Over the last two years we saw Aaron turn from the problem child to a proper man - but still with neverending trouble and suffering for his surroundings.

What a great line! It`s a simple sentence easily spoken, but it gets to the heart of the cliche. And to face it, it`s not Adam being afraid of getting raped or something like that. It`s about Aaron and his fear of people believing that this is exactly what could happen. It`s obviously a fear without cause as Adam is still the best mate Aaron could ever have, and their friendship is one of the best parts of Aaron`s story. I`m just glad that the producers didn`t give in to all the fans that wanted Aaron to turn Adam gay - which would be the biggest cliche at all. It`s much more realistic showing Aaron go to gay places and meet someone like Jackson.

Paddy is absolute right with his statements when he tries to calm down a distressed Aaron who can`t bare his own sexuality. In fact, these days in civilised countries it`s more important who you are than who you sleep with. And it`s shows like this that spread the message by staging it as normal and real as possible. Just remember, there where constantly gay storylines in Emmerdale since 2000 (Jason Kirk, Paul Lambert, Jonny Foster, Ivan Jones).
